Each of the seven foundational principles is interconnected and builds on the others. “Focus on Math” has us consider the ideas of student learning of math which gets to the idea of instruction… which leads to our professional learning … but professional learning of what mathematics? And what resources do we have access to? What resources do our students have access to? Our parents? And how will we find our way as we delve deeply in to the learning of math? Hence, the following pages pose questions and link to one or two starting points about a small part of each. Please dialogue and explore and find out, always asking, “What is the difference in the students’ learning?”.

LEADERSHIP IN MATHEMATICS

The Ontario Leadership Framework describes successful individual and small group practices for both school and system level leaders, as well as effective organizational practices at both school and system levels. School-level Leadership, Catholic School-level Leadership, System-level Leadership and Catholic System-level Leadership summaries are identified on these placemats.

Classroom clips and conversations with students, teachers, leaders were collected from two schools with long term increases in achievement in grades 3 and 6 Mathematics. Available for viewing and downloading.

During the System Implementation and Monitoring regional sessions, Junior Mathematics representatives met to inquire about actions in schools that positively affected Junior EQAO achievement results.  The purpose of this space is to mobilize and build knowledge linking to system implementation related to learning of Mathematics with a focus on the junior grades.

The focus of the March 26/27 teleconferences was to make connections between the work within System Implementation and Monitoring and the work within the math coach/consultant work across Ontario, with a focus on how we monitor learning and how we are responsive.
